Seeing Red

I’m following along with Exploring the Senses, a lovely e-course from Susannah Conway, and today’s email had me thinking lots about colour and particularly red.

I don’t have lots of time this evening, but I had a bit of a creative burst and photographed a few bits at work as I was waiting for Mike to pick me up.  And then a few extra bits I found at home. I think that doing red made me all thrusting and urgent. I’m not sure I’d have felt the same if I was looking for yellow or pink.

I’m loving the new collage feature on picmonkey, by the way. Can you tell?

Through a Wire Fence

Shooting through a wire fence is one of the posts over at Digital Photography School today.

We had a couple of zoo visits last year, and fences being a major issue means that some of the photography is quite challenging.

I liked this one, though – and partly because it doesn’t really stick within the rules. I’d tried to make a bit of a feature of the fence instead of attempting to make it disappear completely.

Quality

1 of 366

So, here we are with the first photo of my 366 project for 2012.

I guess that a lot of people will be familiar with Quality Street chocolates – and were probably hoping that they’d seen the last of them for another year.  I’m not sure whether they’re just a British thing, although I’m sure that there’ll be an equivalent wherever you’re looking in from.

We used to have Quality Street at home over Christmas, and my grandparents always had Cadbury’s Roses at their house. So I grew up always having a bit of both every year.

Nowadays, I can never decide which I prefer – this year we had a little box of each instead of a big tin of either. We’ve still not even started on the Quality Street, but I thought they made for a good picture to finish the festive season.

I’m back at work tomorrow, so I’m now in the last few hours of my time off. Happy New Year to everyone – I have a feeling that 2012 is going to be a lot of fun!

Click here if you want to know more about the 366 project; it’s a great way to have fun with photography and meet some really interesting and encouraging people from all across the world.

Workin’ It

For “Burgundy” on the 365 Project

When Craig arrived for work in this jaunty hat and scarf, I knew I had to snap him for the 365.

Craig’s been in celebratory mood this week because he’s been chosen to carry (we think he might have to run) the Olympic torch through Doncaster in June next year, which is very exciting.

A few modelling style pictures later, I did attempt to explain the 1970s fashion for models pointing at distant unseen objects, but we couldn’t quite pull it off.

I think this is the first time that I’ve tried to take posed pictures like this – I’m going off now to try and find what the internet can tell me about shadows!

Plastics (11 of 365)

I love these mixing bowls. They were a silly buy, really – I didn’t have any need for them, but just bought them because they’re bright and jolly.

MrC (who can actually do photography properly and is normally quite encouraging of my efforts) was most amused at the sight of me trying to look like a serious photographer taking serious pictures of these. In fact, it was the giggling that made it go all blurry and off-centre.
